Cheers to 100 years!

To our valued customers, suppliers & employees,

Baker Manufacturing Limited achieved a business milestone by turning 100 years old this year. While we are incredibly proud of this achievement, we are also humbled by the fact that very few companies reach this major milestone. We opened our doors in Canada in 1924. During the century that followed we evolved into a groundwater & water treatment wholesale with a genuine commitment to serve Manitoba industry professionals.

We want to take this moment to say “Thank you”.

To all the great customers we have served over the years - it has been a pleasure to work with you. To the outstanding manufacturers in our industry whom we have partnered with through the years - our sincere thanks. And to our many employees - from those who poured their hearts and souls out during our humble beginnings in Brandon right up to the current-day remarkable people working alongside us - our heartfelt thank you.

Cheers to the next 100 years!

Clark Myers - President, Baker Manufacturing Ltd.

Baker Manufacturing Ltd.- Our 100 year legacy.

The first 100 years

  • 1924 - 1944

It all began with an idea to expand into Canada. The Baker Manufacturing Company of Evansville, Wisconsin purchased the wholesale division of the Manitoba Engine Company of Brandon, Manitoba. The new corporation was located at 601-9th Street in Brandon and was originally called Ames-Baker Limited. On July 4, 1931, an amendment was made and the name was shortened to Baker Manufacturing Limited. The Branch Managers in Brandon were Paul Ames (1924-1933), George Farrell (1933-1939) and Osborne Doak (1941-1944). The company specialized in pumps, pump jacks, cylinders, engines, tanks, lightning arrestors, feed grinders, pipe & fittings and windmills.

  • 1945 - 1987

In the 1940’s Baker Mfg. Ltd. moved from Brandon to Winnipeg - first to #13-300 Princess Street, then to 187 Bannatyne Avenue and eventually to 104 James Avenue where it was located adjacent to the James Avenue Pumping Station. In 1958, Baker was invited to be the first wholesale member of the inaugural Manitoba Water Well Association. In 1977, Baker moved to our current location at 1333 Richard Avenue. The Branch Managers of the time were Chas. Morrison (1944-1951), Leonard Laine (1952-1955) and Doug Horner (1956-1987).

  • 1988 - 2024

We had several Branch Managers - Chuck Fry (1987-1989), Dave Whalley (1989-1992), Wayne Dunford (1992-1996) before Clark Myers took over in 1997. Clark originally started working at Baker in 1984 straight out of high school. He briefly left Baker but returned as Operations Manager and was later promoted to Sales Manager. In 1999, Baker celebrated 75 years in Canada with a visit from Peter Sears, the President of Baker Manufacturing Company of Evansville, Wisconsin. Discussions ensued and Clark Myers purchased Baker Mfg Ltd. in 1999. Baker has evolved from a plumbing wholesale to a dedicated groundwater, water-well & water treatment wholesale.

Random Acts of Kindness

Our commitment to others makes us who we are. Baker strongly values corporate responsibility on a local, national, and global scale. We have thrown our support behind large projects like the Ubuntu Medical Clinique in Burundi, Ryan’s Well & Help for Haiti. We routinely donate to the fight against cancer and ALS. We have supported hockey & lacrosse teams, and arts groups. We are honored to be able to give back to the communities that have supported our success. This year we are also pledging to give back through a series of Random Acts of Kindness. We hope to share the highlights of our experiences here.
